Anticipation is building for the fifth season of “House of Cards”, which promises to send the journey of cutthroat Commander-in-Chief Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) in some explosive directions as he takes on a terrorist group with the full military might of the U.S.A. — and if his war on terror just happens to distract from the ominous scandal oozing out of the White House, well, that’s pretty much the point.
With an election looming and the scandal expanding, Frank rolls the dice on a risky gambit to take the country to war in order to boost his administration’s popularity and defang the scandal before it really grows teeth.
In addition to Spacey, returning cast-members include Robin Wright as Frank’s wife Claire Underwood, along with Michael Kelly as right-hand hatchet man Doug Stamper, Joel Kinnaman as NY Governor Will Conway, running against Frank in the election, and Neve Campbell as LeAnn Harvey, Claire’s campaign manager.
New cast additions for season five include Patricia Clarkson and Campbell Scott, although the bad news for fans is that Mahershala Ali’s Remy Danton won’t be back this season.
The fifth season of “House of Cards” premieres Tuesday, May 30. Until then, check out these first-look photos from the forthcoming season:
