Cuba Gooding, Sr., father of Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr., has passed away at age 72 from a suspected overdose.
The elder Gooding — a popular soul singer — was discovered “slumped over in his silver Jaguar, parked on Ventura Blvd in Woodland Hills, CA. We’re told the fire department responded to the scene at 12:58 PM PT and attempted CPR, but could not resuscitate him,” TMZ writes.
According to the coroner’s assistant chief Ed Winter, the cause of death is currently under investigation, with Winter also confirming to the AP that drug paraphernalia and alcohol were found in the car, which was parked on a busy street.
Police at present suspect that his death is the result of an overdose.
Cuba Gooding, Sr. was formerly the lead singer of ’70s soul outfit The Main Ingredient, and sang lead vocals on the 1972 hit “Everybody Plays the Fool”.
