Cuba Gooding, Sr., father of Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr., has passed away at age 72.
The elder Gooding — a popular soul singer — was discovered “slumped over in his silver Jaguar, parked on Ventura Blvd in Woodland Hills, CA. We’re told the fire department responded to the scene at 12:58 PM PT and attempted CPR, but could not resuscitate him,” TMZ writes.
According to the coroner’s assistant chief Ed Winter, drug paraphernalia and alcohol were found in the car, which was parked on a busy street.
The autopsy results were released on Tuesday, June 6 with the cause of Gooding Sr.’s death listed as natural and hypertensive and atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease was the factor. The disease can quietly block arteries and slow down the blood, which can often result in heart attacks or strokes.
Cuba Gooding, Sr. was formerly the lead singer of ’70s soul outfit The Main Ingredient, and sang lead vocals on the 1972 hit “Everybody Plays the Fool”.
