“Gossip Girl” fans have been missing the show ever since The CW’s sexy, scandalous drama ended its run back in 2012, and the same holds true for some members of the show’s cast.
This includes Blake Lively, who played socialite Serena van der Woodsen on the series, and recently sat down for an interview with Variety to reveal that she’d be open to reprising the role for a “Gossip Girl” revival — under the right circumstances, however.
“Would I do seven years of the show? No, because it’s hard work and I’ve got my babies, and I don’t want to be away from them that much,” she admits. “But I’ve just learned in life you never say never. I’m looking to do something that I haven’t done yet, not something that I did. But would I do that? Who knows — if it was good, if it made sense. We had so much fun shooting and living and working in New York City.”
And while there are no concrete plans for a “Gossip Girl” reboot — at least not yet — Lively says she would be open to returning to television if the project was right. “For me, it’s about good content,” she explains. “My favourite new things I’ve seen this year have been shows over movies, between ‘The OA’ and ‘Stranger Things’. I finally watched all of ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Westworld’. I love being an audience member of long-form story telling. I would only want to be in a show that I would want to watch.”
Lively’s openness to a “Gossip Girl” revival aren’t shared by her former co-star Leighton Meester, however; in a recent interview with Rogue magazine, Meester said that while she has fond memories of making the show, she has no intention of going back to it.
“I think I’m different,” she explained. “I started Gossip Girl 10 years ago when I was 20, and I’m 30 now. I loved doing it, and now I’m doing something else that I love, and something new that’s a little bit more my taste as a 30 year old, something I’ve grown into.”
