Tom Hardy has played some pretty heroic roles on the big screen, but now we know he’s actually even more of an action hero in real life after reports that he chased down a thief and handed the crook over to authorities.
As reported in U.K. newspaper The Sun, the “Mad Max: Fury Road” star watched a thief steal a moped and then crash it into a car before taking off after the guy on foot in the southwest London neighbourhood of Richmond.
According to a witness, Hardy seemed to “switch into superhero mode in an action movie” as he chased the perp through gardens and a building site before finally outrunning him, at which point he grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and declared, “I caught the c***.”
Arun Pullen watched the whole thing unfold. “It was mental – like he’d switched to superhero mode in an action movie,” he told The Sun after seeing two boys driving the stolen moped run a red light and smash into a Mercedes.
“Tom must have been walking down the road,” added Pullen. “He went off like a shot in pursuit and looked furious. If the kid had been dumb enough to resist I reckon Tom would have given him a good hiding.”
According to Pullen, Hardy took the thief to a nearby bus stop and patted him down before making a citizen’s arrest. “The kid looked wrecked and in shock,” he said.
“Tom Hardy’s clearly not a man you’d mess with. I think he even checked the kid’s ID before cops took over,” said Pullen, confirming that Hardy referred to the thief with a four-letter word that rhymes with “bunt.”
“I asked Tom what happened and he told me he chased him through my back garden and caught him around the block — but the route was like an assault course,” added Pullen.
According to The Sun, Hardy told an onlooker: “This little s**t nicked something and now he’s got himself a broken leg.”
Tuesday morning, Heart London News has revealed two suspects have since been arrested.
Hardy’s rep has yet to comment.
