Former “The Bachelor” star Chris Soules was arrested Monday after a fatal car accident left another driver dead.
Soules allegedly drove his Chevy pickup truck into a tractor trailer. The driver of the other vehicle was killed. He then fled the accident and was arrested shortly after.
The Buchanan County Sheriff’s office confirms to ET that Soules was arrested at 1:16 a.m. and is currently still in jail.
NBC affiliate KWWL and TMZ are both reporting that the accident occurred around 8:20 p.m. in Iowa on Monday evening. ET can confirm that the driver was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he passed. Soules’ mugshot from the arrest was released:
Soules appeared on “The Bachelor” in 2015. He was charged with leaving the scene of the accident.
KWWL’s Elizabeth Amanieh shared a photo of Soules who appeared in court on Tuesday:
ET has also learned that Soules has been arrested 20 times in Iowa, at least 18 of which he was found guilty. Beginning in 1998 the arrests include vehicle-related offences (speeding, running stop signs) and alcohol-related offences (drinking underage, operating a vehicle while under the influence).
Soules posted $10,000 bond and was released from custody on Tuesday. He is to check in with his probation officer regarding an ankle bracelet monitor. The reality star also had to give in his passport as a result of the violation. He was supposed to film something related to “The Bachelor” and would be required to leave the country, but can’t as a result of the arrest.
A representative for Soules released a statement regarding the arrest. “Chris Soules was involved in an accident Monday evening (April 24) in a rural part of Iowa near his home. He was devastated to learn that Kenneth Mosher, the other person in the accident, passed away. His thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Mosher’s family.”
