So you think you can sing a killer cover song?
Then head on over to the website of “Best.Cover.Ever.”, an upcoming singing competition with some key differences that promise to set it apart from “The Voice” and “American Idol”.
One of those differences, however, is not Ryan Seacrest, who appears in the introductory video for the new show (above) to explain how it all works.
The former “Idol” star won’t be hosting, however; Seacrest will serve as exec producer of the new show, which will premiere exclusively on YouTube.
“Do you love to sing covers of your favourite songs?” asks Seacrest. “Have you ever dreamed of hitting the stage with your favourite musical artists? We have a superstar lineup: Demi Lovato. Jason Derulo. The Backstreet Boys. We’ll announce more in the coming weeks. It could also star… you.”
Aspiring singers are instructed to film a video of a performance to submit as an entry, with the music star handpicking a lucky winner “for a chance to perform an exclusive collaboration together, catapulting unknown artists into the spotlight overnight,” adds Seacrest.
Ludacris will host, and wannabe contestants given until May 19 to make their submissions for the first phase of the competition. Songs that can be covered include Backstreet Boys’ “As Long As You Love Me,” Lovato’s “Confident” and Derulo’s “Trumpets.”
No premiere date for “Best. Cover. Ever.” has been set.
