‘The Simpsons’ Delivers A ‘Big Bang Theory’ Couch Gag To Celebrate Show’s 30th Anniversary

“The Simpsons” first came to life as a short animated segment on “The Tracey Ullman” show back in April 19, 1997, with the cartoon shorts used to link the show’s live-action sketches.

As a result, “The Simpsons” celebrated its 30th anniversary on Sunday’s episode with a special couch gag opening that paid tribute to “The Big Bang Theory”.

Featuring an animated homage to the nerdy CBS hit, the couch gag included a parody of the sitcom’s theme song (performed by Barenaked Ladies) that references some of the highlights from past seasons of “The Simpsons”.

Using a timeline, short clips from various moments of the show’s 616 episodes are shown, such as when Bart sold his soul to the devil and Springfield welcoming iconic rock band The Who.

Currently in its 28th season, “The Simpsons” returns to Global on Sunday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT.
