The first official trailer for the fifth season of “House of Cards” has finally been released, and the long-awaited new season of the Netflix series promises to be a slam-dunk for fans now that Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) and wife Claire (Robin Wright) are ensconced in the Oval Office.
“The American people don’t know what’s best for them. I do,” says Frank in an ominous voiceover as scenes of anti-Underwood protests are shown.
“I know exactly what they need. They’re like little children, Claire,” he says patronizingly. “We have to hold their sticky fingers and wipe their filthy mouths. Teach them right from wrong. Tell them what to think and how to feel and what to want.”
Adds Frank: “They even need help writing their wildest dreams and crafting their deepest fears. Lucky for them… they have me.”
As he lists his aspirations for 2020, 2024 and beyond, now that Frank has achieved the power he’s so long desired, he’s become consumed with keeping it: “One nation… Underwood.”
The fifth season of “House of Cards” premieres Tuesday, May 30.
