Zayn Malik took to Twitter last week to ask his 21.8 million followers to assist in any way they could with donations for his mother’s best friend, Ayesha Daniels.
The friend is undergoing treatment for cancer and the singer hoped his fans and followers could help out. Unfortunately for the former One Direction member, his followers didn’t respond exactly as he had anticipated.
The GoFundMe page is asking for a total of £120,000 to help Daniels. So far, it has raised just over £15,000. While the page has raised some money, many of Malik’s fans are wondering why he isn’t the one donating.
Following the backlash Malik received, Daniels updated the GoFundMe page explaining that she asked the singer to reach out to his fans.
“This has had an adverse effect for him as the spiteful trolls are attacking him for his kindness. Never, ever would I ask him for financial help in any way, and I wouldn’t want it any other way,” Daniels wrote on her page.
Daniels says she wanted to enlighten the public about her ordeal but didn’t expect the adverse reaction. “So come on all you trolls, give him a break please and let’s just get on with the fundraising. Much love Ayesha,” she wrote.
