New allegations have been filed in the case against “Bachelor” alum Chris Soules.
According to court documents obtained by ET, the State of Iowa is fighting the 35-year-old reality star’s request on Monday to dismiss the felony charge against him pertaining to the Apr. 24 car crash that left tractor driver Kenneth Mosher dead.
In the response, the State alleges that Soules attempted to “obfuscate the immediate facts and circumstances surrounding the accident, including a determination of his level of intoxication and an explanation of the empty and partially consumed open alcoholic beverages located in and around his vehicle that he was seen purchasing at a convenience store shortly before the accident.”
After Soules hit Mosher’s vehicle with his 2008 Chevrolet Silverado truck in Aurora, Iowa, he called 911 to report the incident and then allegedly fled the scene. He was later arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of a Fatality Motor Vehicle Accident (Class D Felony).
The State’s allegations come after a source close to the Soules family claimed to ET last week that the TV personality was not drunk at the time of the crash. “The truck Chris was driving was one of the old work trucks they had on the land there,” the source told ET. “Not his everyday truck. He was near his land when the crash happened.”
The source claimed that Soules was “in shock” when he left the scene of the accident, and also claimed that one of his relatives had pulled up to the location.
“[His relative] was nearby on their land and heard the crash,” the source alleged. “Then, [Soules and his relative] left at some point.”
An Iowa State Patrol official told ET that the sheriff is looking into who helped Soules allegedly flee the scene, but would not confirm whether the person in question is related to Soules, saying, “I was told by a supervisor that they were going to try and find out who was driving that red [Durham] truck.”
In the criminal complaint earlier obtained by ET, the general probable cause listed was “admission/statements, caused property damage, operating motor vehicles, possessed alcoholic beverages/containers, identified by witnesses, near scene of crime and caused personal injury.”
