With a budding solo career, Niall Horan doesn’t see One Direction ending their hiatus anytime soon.
Speaking in a new interview with The Sun, the 23-year-old former boy band member opens up about the possibility of a One Direction reunion. “It’s been a year and a bit already,” Horan says in his first newspaper interview since the band’s split. “We don’t want to put a time on it. But when that phone call does come, no matter whoever it comes from, we’re back again.”
Despite joining Capitol Records himself, the Irish-born singer reveals that the band is still committed to recording at least one more album with Simon Cowell’s SYCO company. “We were very close to Simon for years and had a lot of success together,” he says. “I just felt like I wanted and needed a fresh start […] We both know that and when One Direction comes back we’ll still have albums left to do.”
On Thursday, Horan released his second solo single, “Slow Hands”, a follow-up to his debut solo track, “This Town”, which is expected to be included on the track list for his upcoming “folk-pop” album, inspired by the works of Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles, EW reports. Take a listen below.
Prior to the release of his new song, Horan joined Zane Lowe on Beats 1 via FaceTime to talk about his new music. “I’ll bring the album out towards the end of the year,” he revealed. “I’m going to be busy all summer promoting ‘Slow Hands’ and possibly another one. So it’s going to be a busy summer for me and then after the summer, I’ll put the album out.”
Speaking about his fellow band members releasing their own solo tunes, Horan added, “It’s great! I guess it’s very interesting for the public to see everyone’s individual styles as the songs are coming out. Because I know the boys really well and we talk to each other on a daily basis, I know what their taste in music is so none of this has been a shock to me.”
