Fresh off the success of the live-action “Beauty and the Beast,” Josh Gad is joining another amazing ensemble cast, this time tasked with solving a murder mystery in the re-imagining of Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express”.
The actor jumped aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express to talk about the new film, telling Natasha Gargiulo why Hollywood can’t seem to get the classic tale out of its head.
“There’s a reason that Agatha Christie has only been outsold by the Bible and William Shakespeare,” Gad says. “That is, her books are timeless, her books offer not only incredibly romantic murder mysteries set against the backdrop of things like the Orient Express, but it offers amazing characters.”
And Gad isn’t joking! The remake has attracted big-name stars like Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Michelle Pfeiffer, Willem Dafoe and Kenneth Branagh, who is also helming the project as director.
“There is something about these characters that are so wonderful to play,” Gad adds. “And I think that’s why it keeps being developed over and over but also why it keeps attracting enormous casts.”
But the one cast member that Josh is most excited about is “Star Wars” heroine, Daisy Ridley. The actor has been hounding his co-star for months to reveal secrets from episode VIII, “The Last Jedi,” something that’s made her less of a fan of his.
“I feel like I represent so many of the fans out there, who have a special place in their heart for ‘Star Wars’ and we’re demanding answers,” Gad explains. “And all we want is the truth, Dais, that’s all we’ve ever wanted.”
So has Gad got his answers?
And does he think he’ll ever get them?
But he jokes that he “likes to take credit” for the release of the “The Last Jedi” trailer saying, “I like to tell myself that I did that, I got them to do that,” he says with a laugh.
