During his appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Thursday, Matt Lauer turned the tables on the host by asking her some questions.
On Friday’s episode of “Today”, Lauer shared his interview with the comedian and talk show host. The two discussed her recent episode dedicated to her coming out on her sitcom, “Ellen”. Lauer also asked DeGeneres her thoughts on Donald Trump and if he was welcome on her show.
DeGeneres answered honestly and said that no, he is not welcome. “Because I’m not gonna change his mind,” she said. “He’s against everything that I stand for,” she continued.
“We need to look at someone else who looks different than us, and believes in something that we don’t believe in and still accept them and still let them have their rights,” the host added.
When the host looks back on her coming-out episode she says she wishes she’d done it sooner because it was such a big deal. She also reveals she received letters from fans and viewers who wrote to her saying thank you for what she did.
As a result of the episode, DeGeneres not only received death threats, she lost her career for three years. “It taught me compassion. It taught me I was strong enough to start all over again. It was the greatest thing that ever happened to me,” she revealed.
