With the upfronts in full swing this week, TV viewers are finally discovering which pilots received pickup orders for the upcoming fall season.
During its upfront presentation on Monday, the Fox network unveiled its roster of new and returning shows, and there’s no denying that one of the most intriguing comes from “Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane.
Titled “The Orville”, longtime “Star Trek” fan MacFarlane stars in the live-action sci-fi spoof set 400 years in the future, following the misadventures of a starship captained by MacFarlane’s character.
Also starring are Adrianne Palicki (“Friday Night Lights”) as his fellow officer — and, awkwardly, ex-wife! — along with Scott Grimes (“Justified”) as his best friend, Peter Macon as an alien from a single-sex species and comedian Norm MacDonald, who lends his voice to a gelatinous extraterrestrial being. As if that’s not enough to pique anyone’s interest, the pilot was directed by Jon Favreau of “Iron Man”/”Jungle Book” fame.
Also revealed today were trailers for: “The Gifted”, an “X-Men”-style series starring Stephen Moyer (“True Blood”), in which a typical suburban couple discover their children are mutants who possess superpowers; and “Ghosted”, starring Adam Scott (“Parks and Recreation”) and Craig Robinson (“The Office”) as paranormal investigators.
In addition, the network also debuted trailers for a pair of midseason series: a medical drama titled “The Resident” and a new comedy starring Dylan McDermott, “LA to Vegas”. Watch:
