After dating for nearly a year and a half, Amy Schumer and Ben Hanisch have decided to call it quits.
“Amy and Ben have ended their relationship after thoughtful consideration and remain friends,” a rep for Schumer confirmed to People.
The couple met via a dating app for creative types, Schumer revealed in her book The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo, after each “sent each other very simple hellos and short, funny messages.” They met face to face a few weeks later, writes Schumer, adding that they “smiled at each other and in that moment, everything felt right.”
While Hanisch squired Schumer to the Golden Globes back in January, he’s become far less of a frequent presence on her social media in recent months. In addition, the Chicago-based furniture designer has been conspicuous by his absence as Schumer and co-star Goldie Hawn have been making the rounds to promote their new comedy “Snatched”.
In fact, a funny anecdote that Schumer divulged in an interview with British Glamour now seems, in retrospect, to hint that not all cylinders were sparking for the couple. In her story, Schumer recalls that she “went down on” her boyfriend — and he wound up yawning.
“I’m happy, but obviously I was like, ‘F**k you!’” said Schumer. “When I’m down there, if it’s more than a minute, it’s his birthday or something. But this morning it just happened — and then he yawned and it was a great excuse to stop.”
