As “The Big Bang Theory” prepares for its 11th season in the fall, the nerd-centred sitcom will be facing some competition from a new show featuring a beloved “Big Bang” character — albeit not the way we’re used to seeing him.
During CBS’s upfront presentation today, the network unveiled the first trailer for “Young Sheldon”, a new prequel that follows the childhood adventures of the socially awkward genius played by Jim Parsons.
In the prequel, Iaim Armitage plays the budding young nerd at age nine.
“For 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper, it isn’t easy growing up in East Texas,” reads the network’s synopsis. “Being a once-in-a-generation mind capable of advanced mathematics and science isn’t always helpful in a land where church and football are king. And while the vulnerable, gifted and somewhat naïve Sheldon deals with the world, his very normal family must find a way to deal with him.”
While Parsons won’t appear in the show, he’ll be providing voiceover narration as present-day Sheldon.
