Leave it to Netflix to bring back an ’80s nostalgia favourite. Jim Henson’s classic “The Dark Crystal” is getting a prequel, “The Dark Crystal: Ago of Resistance”.
The streaming network is working closely beside The Jim Henson Company and its CEO Lisa Henson, Jim’s daughter, to make sure Netflix does justice to Henson’s iconic work. “Netflix has a deep respect for my father’s original work and the many people it inspired,” Lisa said. “They are the perfect partners to create this next epic chapter in ‘The Dark Crystal’ story for new fans and the loyal fans who have waited so long for more adventures from this world.”
The 10-episode Netflix original will take place years before the 1982 classic. Fans will return to the world of Thra, where three Gelfling discover the secret behind Skeksis’ power and set out to start a rebellion and save their world.
The adventure will feature creatures created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and with the help of the film’s original concept designer, Brian Froud.
“I can’t wait for families around the world to see how we bring these unique characters to life,” said Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content for Netflix.
No word yet when we will get to jump back into Henson’s world, but the series is in production in the U.K..
