Earlier this week, Nashville Predators fans thought that Keith Urban singing the national anthem before a game was the most amazing thing they had ever seen.
And it was — until Kelly Clarkson took to the ice on Thursday to deliver her own take on “The Star Spangled Banner”, which pretty much blew the roof off of Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena as the team vies for its first Stanley Cup.
While Urban was cheered on by wife Nicole Kidman in the stands, the “American Idol” winner — and future “Voice” coach — had members of rock band Kings of Leon waving towels in appreciation as she unleashed her awe-inspiring multi-octave range for an a cappella rendition of the anthem.
Taking to Twitter, Clarkson jokingly begged the Predators to win the game — “or people will blame me!”
In addition to Clarkson and Urban, previous country stars to perform the anthem before a Predators game during the playoffs have included Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Little Big Town, Vince Gill and Lady Antebellum.
Clarkson’s performance was not only a hit in the Music City arena, but also made a big impact on social media — and even led her to trend on Twitter. Check out this sampling of tweets:
