You can call her Dr. Oprah now that Oprah Winfrey is the proud owner of an honourary doctorate from Skidmore College, where the media mogul spoke to graduates on Saturday.
In her commencement address, Winfrey — who was awarded an honourary doctorate of letters in the arts — opened up about the secrets to her success.
“I have been so blessed to live inside the dream of God,” she said, adding that she’s learned to follow her “inner truth” when making career decisions, advice she hopes the graduates will take.
“It’s a big, bad world out there,” she warned graduates, but added: “There is nothing more powerful than you using your personality to serve the calling of yourself.”
She also discussed the importance of gratitude and spirituality in her own life journey.
“I got everything because I practiced being grateful,” Winfrey said, recalling her rise from Baltimore TV news reporter to media icon. “I live in that space every day of practicing gratitude because I know that … wherever you are, whatever place or space in your life, being grateful changes your personal vibration.”
