Oscar winner Nicole Kidman reveals that she’s not a big texter.
The “Big Little Lies” star covers the July issue of InStyle magazine and inside, she says she’s not a fan of texting people and would rather talk to them on the phone. In 2017? The audacity!
“I call. People text, and then I text back ‘Just call me.’ I like the voice. Keith and I don’t ever text. We call. That’s just what we’ve always done. We’re old school,” Kidman reveals about how she and husband Keith Urban communicate.
For Kidman, texting is like acting: a job. The celebrity lifestyle has never really appealed to the actress because it has always been about the work for her. “As much as it looks really glitzy, acting is a job for me. I’m not a celebrity who’s going to go out just because. That’s not my nature,” she reveals.
What she is a fan of, however, is the accessibility it has given her to the fashion world. Kidman, a style icon, loves fashion because it allows her to transform herself. “There are dreams attached to fashion,” she says. “It allows me to express what I’m feeling, as in, I want to wear that because that’s actually my rebellion right now. Or that’s my way of fitting in. Or it’s my way of saying no. Or it’s my way of saying I’m different.”
When asked about her relationships in her life, whether with friends like Reese Witherspoon or her children, she’s always been a maternal kind of person. “A lot of my forces are maternal. I mean, they’re romantic, too. I’ve always chosen to have really deep, intense romantic relationships. I don’t flit around… I don’t dabble,” Kidman says.
Her friendships extend to cast members, like those of “Big Little Lies”. She says that women coming together for work is always a united and powerful experience. Why? “One, because we’re very loyal. And two, we’re all multitaskers, and we can get stuff done. It’s a beautiful thing when you can actually make a project work based on true friendships,” she says.
