Lorde Invites Cashier Who Sold Her A Smoothie To Be Her Guest At Governors Ball Music Festival

Lorde will be among the performers at this weekend’s Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City, and the New Zealand phenom’s special guest for the event will be… the woman who just sold her a smoothie?

It’s true! The 20-year-old pop sensation has invited smoothie shop cashier Emely Paula, 19, to the music festival after a friendly chat that led her to discover the woman behind the counter was a huge fan.

It all started when Lorde popped into NYC’s Liqueteria for a smoothie, making small talk with Paula, who had started working there only two weeks earlier and let it be known that Lorde was one of her favourite artists.

After meeting Lorder, Paula posted a short video on Twitter in which she describes selling her “first smoothie to a famous person,” with the camera shifting to reveal a smiling Lorde standing at the counter. As Paula writes in the tweet, “She made my morning.”

But then something beyond unexpected happened. Later that day, Lorde sent Paula a DM on Twitter, inviting her to the festival.

“I was gonna ask u in the store if u wanted to come but I got shy! To celebrate ur new job :-).” wrote Lorde, with Paula posting a screenshot of the message in a followup tweet.

“Woke up trying to figure out if last night was a dream or real life…” wrote Paula in her tweet.

Paula’s excitement is evident in the tweets that followed:

The Governors Ball Music Festival runs from June  2-4 at Randall’s Island Park in New York City; in addition to Lorde, headliners include Chance the Rapper, Phoenix, Childish Gambino, Wu-Tang Clan, Tool, Cage the Elephant, Wiz Khalifa, and Canadians Mac DeMarco and The Strumbellas.
