On Sunday’s episode of “Last Week Tonight”, host John Oliver had some choice words for American media outlets like Fox News, The New York Times, and CNN, whose coverage of the London attacks Saturday night infuriated the Briton.
The host wanted to make one thing clear when it comes to London and the recent terror attacks: the city is not “reeling” in any way.
“Okay, here’s the thing: For the record, in no way is Britain ‘under siege,’” Oliver began.
“Is it upset? Yes. Is it pissed off? Oh, you f**king bet it’s pissed off. But to say it’s ‘under siege’ and that its people are ‘reeling’ is to imply that it’s somehow weak enough to be brought to its knees by three monumental assholes. And that, as an idea, is insulting.”
He did, however, commend Twitter users for making the hashtag #ThingsThatLeaveBritainReeling trend.
“Honestly, it was an uplifting demonstration of quintessentially British defiance because the British people are never going to let terror change their way of life,” said Oliver.
“And if you need proof of this, just look at this footage of people being evacuated from the scene,” Oliver continued, pointing out a man fleeing the scene with a beer still in his hand. “He refused to leave his pint of beer behind! That is a one-man walking ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ poster.”
