Selena Gomez hasn’t said much about her still-sizzling romance with The Weeknd, but she opened up about the couple’s relationship during her Friday appearance on “On Air With Ryan Seacrest”.
Speaking with Seacrest, the “It Ain’t Me” singer discussed the comfort level she feels with her Scarborough-born boyfriend, whom she referred to by his real name, Abel.
“Because I’ve been doing this for so long, I don’t feel like there’s anything that I would want to … not necessarily hide, but I’m genuinely myself,” said Gomez of her relationship with the “Starboy” artist. “I think it’s really hard when I would want to spend so much time hiding things. It’s too much pressure, and I think everyone gets over everything eventually.”
The rumour mill went into overdrive when the pair were seen sharing a kiss outside a Santa Monica restaurant in January, and the relationship seems to have heated up since then.
Gomez confirmed the rumours during Coachella in mid-April when she shared a photo of herself and The Weeknd on Instagram, which has so far garnered nearly 8 million likes.
Then in May, the duo attended the annual Met Gala together, marking their first public appearance as a couple.
Added Gomez: “I just want to be happy. If that’s me just being myself, then I don’t really care.”
Meanwhile, Seacrest also wanted to hear her take on the controversy over teen-suicide Netflix drama “13 Reasons Why”, on which she serves as executive producer.
“The subject matter is a very complicated story to tell. It had this thriller, very dark, very weird kind of tone to it, and I think applying that and bringing it to a visual place is scary for people,” said Gomez, confirming the upcoming second season will feature “a lot of resolution” and “a lot of repercussions for the actions that people have done.”
