“House of Cards” star Kevin Spacey brought his character’s cerebral mind to life at the Tony Awards.
The host of this year’s ode to the theatre opened the awards show with an original song that teased rumours surrounding his sexuality: “I’m coming out — wait, no no no no,” he sang.
Spacey kicked off this performance with an ode to last year’s host. “I know they loved James Corden, but I’ll show I came to play,” he nodded.
The opening number featured guest spots from Stephen Colbert and Whoopi Goldberg.
Spacey sang songs from four Tony-nominated best musicals, while executing rapid fire costume changes. The musicals were Dear Evan Hansen, Groundhog Day, Natasha Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 and Come from Away.
The 71st annual Tony Awards are happening live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
