Josh Brolin is utterly transformed in new workout pics as he preps for his role as the muscular mutant Cable in “Deadpool 2”.
The 49-year-old actor showed fans he’s been hitting the gym to prepare for his role in the comic book sequel, shocking even former pro-wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista with his newly-ripped physique.
“Just saw @davebautista at the gym and he said: ‘What the f**k happened to you?!'”, Brolin captioned an impressive Instagram video of himself working out at the gym. The actor posted the photo of himself, thanking the “team” that has helped get him in shape to battle Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool on screen. Brolin even included a friendly tease to Reynolds in his post, adding a “#ryanreynoldsismyb***h” hashtag.
Quietly, the "Team" is killing it. It takes a small village: @justindlovato at @iambuilt, Jonathon Phillips @hbmaxmuscle, @goldsgym and some discipline. Just saw @davebautista at the gym and he said: "What the f*ck happened to you?!" Haha. Best compliment ever. Totally clean: no sugar, no breads, no pastas, no drugs, none of it. Fish, rice, eggs, veggies, water, one @bulletproof or @cavemancoffeeco in the morning. I'm almost 50. It's a different time: our access along with some big picture discipline results in always surprising milestones. Get on the train. #wedontfuckaround. #itaintthathard #startslowandlight @weprevail #ryanreynoldsismybitch
In the upcoming sequel due out in 2018, Brolin plays Nathan Summers, aka Cable, the mutant son of Cyclops and Jean Grey who inherited psychic abilities and a glowing eye from his parents. Thanks to a trip to an apocalyptic future, Cable becomes a hulked-out mercenary with a bionic arms and massive guns – both literal and the bicep-kind. From the looks of it, Brolin is definitely on-track to take on Deadpool when filming begins in the coming months.
Brolin credits his transformation to “clean” eating and his rigorous training schedule.
“Totally clean: no sugar, no breads, no pastas, no drugs, none of it. Fish, rice, eggs, veggies, water…” he writes. Brolin does admit to having one coffee in the morning.
The actor himself seems surprised at his newfound physique, especially as he nears 50.
“I’m almost 50. It’s a different time: our access along with some big picture discipline results in always surprising milestones. Get on the train,” he posts with the hashtag” #itaintthathard”.
Before he started his training regimen, Brolin shared a before-and-after photo of himself weighing in at 240-pounds in January, up from an earlier 167-pounds. Brolin’s guns were on display in a fun father-and-son snap he posted to Instagram earlier this week.
“Ain’t nothing better than spending time with my boy,” he captioned the pic of himself with his son, Trevor Brolin, 29.
