Actor Miles Teller was reportedly detained by police on Sunday morning for being drunk in public and refusing to cooperate with cops, but the “Whiplash” actor is coming forward to offer his version of events.
A San Diego Police Department report obtained by Us Weekly indicates that Teller, 30, showed “symptoms of being intoxicated from alcohol.” The star was allegedly “slurring his speech, swaying from side to side and had bloodshot eyes.”
Teller is said to have been inebriated to the point of being unable to stand, according to TMZ. The incident allegedly occurred early Sunday morning while the “Fantastic Four” star was partying with a group of guys in San Diego.
Local law enforcement reportedly told the outlet Teller became uncooperative when approached by an officer and lost his balance, almost falling into a traffic lane!
The police officer offered to take Teller to a detox centre to sleep off the booze, but he allegedly refused. The publication notes the cop took Teller to the detox facility regardless, but charged the actor with a misdemeanour for public intoxication after Teller still refused to cooperate.
Teller was reportedly kept in jail for roughly four hours, before being released without bail.
Following reports of the incident, Teller took to Twitter to explain that he was in San Diego visiting a friend, presumably in the military, who was about to be deployed, and claims he “wasn’t arrested” but was “detained [because] there was no evidence to charge me with a crime.”
Teller also cautions, “Don’t believe everything you read, especially from a third party entertainment news source trying to get clicks.”
