Watch out, Gwyneth Paltrow! Halle Berry is joining the lifestyle world.
Berry, who first launched her Hallewood fansite back in 2000, is rebranding it as a lifestyle forum for her fans. She revealed the news at a Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity panel on Tuesday.
The actress said that she knew back in 2000 that the future for celebrities would be connecting with their fans on a more conversational and relatable level. “To have a real conversation for them to get to know me in a different way than the media was presenting me,” she said.
Although the website was closed after four years because it was too much work, Berry is relaunching it now to include fashion, beauty, home, and parenting advice. Berry called it “an inclusive world of curation” that will also host discussion groups for her fans.
“Based on where we are now with this great divide in our country, and it’s my obligation as an artist, to start providing that forum for people to talk things out and bring us a little bit closer,” she said of the site’s impending revival, set for relaunch in 2018.
The site will be a way for Berry to have control over her online media profile. The “Kidnap” star says that social media is empowering but concerning because it can be misused. “It can be a brand killer,” she admitted.
“People actually have the power to affect your brand in this day and age, and I have little control over it and that’s the frustrating part,” she said. The site will be a way for her to control the narrative and interact with her fans “face-to-face.”
