[Spoiler Alert!] “How To Get Away With Murder” delivered another killer twist to end of its first season… Rebecca has been murdered!
Katie Findlay, who plays Rebecca, was “heartbroken” when she found out her character was being killed off. “Nobody ever wants to leave a show and it’s not necessarily about money or a job,” Katie explains. “You build a family.”
Part of that family is star Viola Davis, for whom Katie has “so much gratitude” for having had the chance to work with and learn from her. “You would think that she’s this really frightening, intimidating person, because she’s so regal and good at what she does”, Katie adds, “but Viola is a blast.”
Breaking up with her TV family has been tough, but the show’s creator, Pete Nowalk, made it a little easier on Katie by telling her about her impending death a week before the rest of the cast found out at the table read.
“I knew this was kind of a possibility for Rebecca from the start,” Katie explains. “[Pete] explained that they had turned the story 100 different ways and this is what he felt like needed to happen. It wasn’t a personal comment in any way and he was actually really bummed out about it.”
But, of course, since the show tells a lot of its story through flashbacks, we probably haven’t seen the last of Rebecca. “We do have to know what happened [to Rebecca],” Katie says. “We have to know who did it!”
The Canadian-born actress, who still lives in Vancouver, won’t be abandoning Canada full-time for Los Angeles any time soon. “My heart is definitely Canadian,” Katie jokes. “I spend a lot of time educating people in California about Canada, sometimes against their will.”
