Comedian and actor Damon Wayans Jr. took to Twitter on Tuesday to join in the 4th of July celebrations.
The “Happy Endings” actor tweeted out “Happy white people proud of their racist ancestors day” and some of his followers did not find it very funny.
Several Twitter users took offense to the tweet and the actor defended himself and said it was just a joke and that some people took it too personally.
Wayans hasn’t deleted the tweet or apologized for it. The actor has continued to defend the joke and asked his followers to feel free to be offended by it.
He signed off with one more Fourth of July tweet on Tuesday, a simple “FireTwerks” with several emojis:
