Prime minister Justin Trudeau and wife Sophie made an appearance at the Global Citizen Festival in Hamburg, Germany on Thursday and took the opportunity to discuss gender equality.
Before introducing Coldplay, Sophie spoke out about the issues that are affecting women. “Because the really big issues we face, like climate change, poverty, and disease, affect women and girls more than anyone else,” she said.
“The fight for fairness and equality starts with empowering women and girls,” Justin echoed Sophie’s statements.
They then introduced Feminist International Assistance Policy, which helps women’s organizations and includes women in helping fight the issues mentioned by Sophie. “It invests in grassroots women’s organizations like never before,” Justin said.
Justin then said that this is one of the issues he will be tackling to the G20 summit that will be happening over the weekend. The prime minister then introduced the event’s headlining act, Chris Martin and Coldplay:
