Jessica Biel reveals the secrets behind her success in both her career and personal life, including exactly what it is that makes her marriage to Justin Timberlake work so well.
In a tell-all interview with Marie Claire, the actress speaks candidly about her life with husband Justin Timberlake and their two-year-old son Silas Randall.
“We have similar values; we believe in loyalty, honesty. We like to have fun. We like a lot of the same things,” Biel explains when asked about her ten-year relationship with the “SexyBack” singer.
“Also, in the business, we’re all very career-oriented, and you have to be a little selfish,” she continues. “I understand that about my peers—about being focused and driven—and if you can find that and someone who shares the same values as you, it’s like: Score!”
The couple married in 2012 after five years of dating and welcomed their baby boy, Silas, in April 2015. In the interview, Biel is forthcoming about what life as a parent has taught her and how it has altered her values.
“You think you’re a selfless person, and then you realize you’re not,” the 35-year-old actress states. “These little people come around, and they require so much, and your schedule is really not your own, nor is it important anymore, and it’s very clear that it’s your life now revolving around this dude.”
“I’m not that person who feels like, Oh, my whole life changes for my kid, but it does,” she added.
The “Rules of Attraction” star also touches upon her career and life in Hollywood. “My Hollywood experience as a young person was never one of those “True Hollywood” stories where I was left alone to my own devices with no parental supervision,” says Biel, who like her husband was a child actor. “There was always somebody with me.”
Biel’s career is still going strong, and she will soon return to TV in the USA network’s new series “The Sinner,” based on Petra Hammesfahr’s best-selling German novel. “It’s dark. And it gets weird really fast,” Biel says about the show in which she plays a middle-class mother who commits a brutal murder during a fit of rage.
But the actress enjoyed tapping into her dark side for the role. “It’s like a drug, like an adrenaline rush. There’s a real catharsis…you’re exhausted, you are free; you feel a lot of different things. For me, it’s like a rebirth. Like I’m a phoenix rising up out of the ashes.”
“The Sinner” is coming soon on Showcase.
