Jon Stewart returned to late-night TV on Thursday but not in a hosting capacity. Instead, he crashed the set of another popular talk show.
The comedian appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to air his grievances with its host and a 13-year-old child.
The teen in question, Will Rubin from Pennsylvania, came to Kimmel’s attention when he decided to throw a “Jimmy Kimmel Live”-themed bar mitzvah. In the video, Will appears dressed in a smart suit, showing off an impressive replica of the talk show set. “I want your job one day,” Will said, which Kimmel joked was either “an invitation or a threat.”
In a gesture of gratitude, Kimmel invited Will on the real show, via live video link, and that’s when things took a turn. During the interview, Stewart stepped onto the stage and took over, getting a few things off his chest.
Addressing Will, the former “Daily Show” host said: “I’m Jon Stewart. I’m a talk show host as well – I was, a few years ago. “And I’m a Jew. You probably had your choice of idolizing any talk show host. You could have gone with a Jew, is what I’m saying.”
Will laughed along as Stewart informed Will that Kimmel is not Jewish. “Don’t be fooled by his learned-looking beard and his puffy, sad eyes,” he joked. “He’s not rabbinical. He’s just unhealthy.”
Stewart continued: “Will, wouldn’t you rather idolize a talk-show host who is also circumcised? Wouldn’t you rather? He’s not! Will, I don’t know how to put this. I don’t know how the kids say it: He’s still wearing his hoodie. Do you see what I’m saying?”
Before Stewart disappeared, Kimmel asked Will: “Maybe you could have a Jon Stewart themed wedding?” Will, in his best deadpan response, told the pair of comedians, “I’ll think about it.”
