Billy Crystal is opening up about cancelling his talk show appearance last month after getting “the weirdest injury ever.”
During a rescheduled appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Monday night, the 69-year-old “When Harry Met Sally…” star reveals that he dealt with an extremely painful injury after succumbing to an uncontrollable sneeze.
The comedian recalls falling asleep in a chair when, out of nowhere, he had a “violent” sneeze. He explains, “If it was a cartoon, my arms are flying off my body, my eyes are coming out of my head, people in the room are now naked because I blew their clothes off.”
Crystal recalls that he fell asleep only to later wake up because he couldn’t breathe. “I tore a rib muscle from sneezing. And it’s not an injury that you want to brag about. I didn’t rescue a woman out of a burning car […] I sneezed.”
The famed funny man explains that he’s had a long history with sneezing, stemming from a lifetime spent dealing with various allergies, including one to “different kinds of chocolate.” Crystal recalls that his wild sneezes even helped him make a little extra cash with his roommate in college.
“I can sneeze more than 50 times,” Crystal explains, adding that his roommate organized a student gathering to come watch him eat chocolate and sneeze. “So finally we get to 63 sneezes,” he says. “I made $250.” Hilariously, the gig later landed Crystal into a fraternity party where he was invited to sneeze.
