In a recent GQ interview, Brad Pitt revealed he’s a big fan of Frank Ocean, even crediting Ocean’s music for helping him through his divorce from Angelina Jolie.
“I’ve been listening to a lot of Frank Ocean,” Pitt told GQ when asked about what’s helped him through his difficult split. “I find this young man so special. Talk about getting to the raw truth. He’s painfully honest. He’s very, very special. I can’t find a bad one. And of great irony to me: Marvin Gaye’s ‘Here, My Dear’ [Gaye ’s confessional album about his divorce]. And that kind of sent me down a road.”
News of Pitt’s fandom clearly made it to Ocean, who invited Pitt onstage during his headlining set at FYF Fest on Saturday in Los Angeles so he could sing to him.
In video from the performance (above), Ocean performs his interpretation of a vintage Stevie Wonder performance of The Carpenters’ “Close to You” and The Jackson 5’s “Never Can Say Goodbye” to Pitt as he sits onstage looking forlorn, holding his cellphone to his ear for dramatic effect.
Fans at FYF Fest went nuts about Pitt’s surprise cameo in the show, and took to social media to share the moment:
