Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger have a long, complicated history, evolving from their intense rivalry in the 1980s when the Hollywood action heroes competed at the box office (an era in which Stallone admitted he had a “violent hatred” forSchwarzenegger, who relentlessly needled him in the press).
These days, however, the two have buried the hatchet, even co-starring together in a few films, and Stallone referenced their rivalry-turned-friendship in a birthday speech at Schwarzenegger’s 70th birthday bash.
Admitting the two are still intensely competitive, Stallone says he realizes it’s been that competition that has fuelled both men to keep striving to stay at the top of their respective games.
And speaking of competition, the two men and Tom Arnold went head-to-head-to-head in an amusing dance off!
Stallone shared a snippet of his speech on Instagram, writing: “A little bit of my birthday speech to the Big Man… It’s a one-of-a-kind competitive relationship which we are both grateful for! Keep punching, Arnold!”
In the video, below, Stallone’s speech is greeted with a big hug from the birthday boy as he sports a wide grin.
Prior to the former California governor’s birthday, Stallone likewise took to Instagram to send along his best pre-birthday wishes to the “BIG MAN” who “set the bar so high it will never be surpassed, an action hero legend!”
