Sam Hunt is celebrating his 25th consecutive week at #1, with his country hit “Body Like a Back Road” making music history by setting a new record for the most weeks at the top spot on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.
“Body Like a Back Road” has now edged out the previous record-holder, Florida Georgia Line, whose single “Cruise” spent 24 weeks at #1 back in 2012-2013.
Hunt’s song, from his “Montevallo” album, is also making inroads into the pop charts, landing in the top 10 of Billboard‘s Hot 100 all-genre chart as well.
“Making history is fun, and this summertime smash keeps going and going,” Mike Dungan, Universal Music Group Nashville chairman/CEO, told Billboard.
In an earlier interview with Billboard, Hunt admitted he never imagined that “Body Like a Back Road” would find the kind of success that it has.
“I had no idea [it’d be this big],” said the singer. “A couple of songs from ‘Montevallo’ pushed the boundaries of the country genre, but on ‘Body Like a Back Road’, from a lyrical standpoint, I was actually trying to lean back into country.”
Added Hunt: “I really wanted to make sure it was clear that that was the genre I felt like I belonged in, and where my identity stood. But it kind of worked, contrary to that thinking, and it had more appeal than any of the songs before. It was crazy how that worked. It wasn’t intentional, but I’m glad that it resonated.”
