The Spice Girls shaped a generation with their message of “girl power”, and Baby Spice wanted to show some love to those fans in person.
Buzzfeed gathered four enormous Spice Girls fans and had them talk about what the ’90s girl group meant to them in their lives. Three women and one man spoke about the influence the Spice Girls’ message of empowerment had on them, helping them learn to believe in themselves.
What they didn’t know was that right behind them, Baby Spice herself, Emma Bunton, was hiding and listening to every word. Then just at the right moment, she popped out to greet them.
The reactions each time were amazing. Shocked screams and hugs ensued.
After the first few moments of shock, the fans sat down to talk to Bunton directly and thanked her for all the Spice Girls did for them.
One fan, Ashly, told Bunton that the Spice Girls “formed a whole entire generation of women who believed in themselves because you existed.”
Another fan, Curly, told her, “As a young gay kid, it was a thing of like, Oh, I’m different. And then I would read about you guys and what you guys went through and I was like, You know what? I’m gonna be gay and own it.”
Bunton is currently starring in the reality show “Boy Band” in which she, the Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter, and Timbaland all help guide contestants on the show vying to be part of a new boy band.
