The star-studded, snow covered Whistler Film Festival turned 12 this weekend and the star of the most lucrative franchise in the world joined in the celebration. The one and only Daniel Radcliffe, who is currently shooting in the neighbouring town of Squamish, was WFF’s special spotlight guest. Not a bad get for a little, Canadian fest!
He arrived for his interviews sans body guards; happily posed for photos with moderator George Stroumboulopoulos and Festival Director Shauna Hardy Mishaw and thoughtfully answered all my questions. When I asked him why he wanted to share his story and his goals with a live audience, the chatty Brit said it felt “like the right moment to mark.”
And Daniel certainly has lots to talk about. The 23-year-old has three big films coming out in 2013 and none of the projects bare any similarity to Harry Potter. In the Toronto-shot F word, Radcliffe gives romantic comedy a go and in Horns he shows off his devilish side.
In January, Radcliffe will attend his very first Sundance Film Festival to premiere the highly anticipated indie Kill Your Darlings. In it the actor plays gay Beat poet Allen Ginsburg, and it’s a role that might just leave you asking “Harry Who?”
