It was the very first year that Canada’s Geminis and Genies were all wrapped up into one big show – the Canadian Screen Awards. Our very own Cheryl Hickey graced the red carpet glowing with her hubby Kevin by her side.
And joining Cheryl at the star-studded event were Sandra Oh, Jody Claman and of course, Martin Short who hosted. “I like my champagne, like I like my women, compliments of the Canadian Screen Awards,” he revealed.
And Martin even serenaded his competition in the Best Host category: “Boo boo Cheryl Hickey, you should have phoned in Sickey… and George Stroumboulopoulos, I’m not even going to try to rhyme that.”
Of course, CBC’s Strombo did scoop the prize, saying, “I’m a little bit worried what Martin Short is going to do to me backstage now.”
Other homegrown talents who took home trophies, include “Bomb Girls” star Meg Tilly who won for Best Actress in a TV Dramatic Role. While the biggest winner of the night was the Oscar-nominated film, “War Witch”, that won 10 of the 12 awards it was nominated for.
