Award season is starting to ramp up, and the Spirit Awards are starting off by nominating ’12 Years A Slave’ and “All is Lost’ for Best Feature.
’12 Years A Slave’ was nominated for seven Spirit Awards. The drama which was directed by Steve McQueen and debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival has been nominated for best feature, director, screenplay and Chiwetel Ejiofer for best actor. Michael Fassbender takes the best supporting actor nomination, and Lupita Nyong’o for best supporting actress.
“Inside Llewyn Davis,’ “All is Lost,’ “Frances Ha’ and “Nebraska” are also contenders for Best Feature. First time writer and director, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is nominated for his movie “Don Jon.’
“Mud’ starring Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon selected for the annual Robert Altman Award which is given to a film’s director, casting director and ensemble cast.
Octavia Spencer and Paula Patton were on hand to announce the nominations on Tuesday in L.A.
The 29th Spirit Awards will be handed on on a beach in Santa Monica, L.A. on March 1, 2014.
