It was the smack heard (and seen) ’round the world and tonight on Late Night with David Letterman, Will Smith opens up about his uncharacteristic slapping of a Ukrainian reporter – an incident that quickly made international headlines.

“I was in Moscow and we were doing an interview,”; Smith explains of the now-infamous event in which a journalist tried to land a surprise peck on the star. “[The journalist] says, “I’m your biggest fan, can I have a hug please?’ So I go to give this joker a hug and he, like, tries to lean in and kiss me…It’s just awkward.”;
Officials at the event later apologized on behalf of the man in question telling Smith that his behavior was well-known “schtick”; to which he replied, “Well, that’s why his a** got schtuck.”;

The incident, which you can see here, shows the reporter going in for a hug from the Men in Black 3 star before getting a bit too close for his comfort.
