Neil Young, U2 & Run-D.M.C. Headline 2014’s Grammy Hall of Fame Class

By Dan MacRae, .

The Hall of Fame located in L.A.’s Grammy Museum is set to get a bit more crowded.

On Tuesday, The Recording Academy announced that 27 iconic recordings are headed for the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2014. The new inductees include U2’s 1987 landmark album The Joshua Tree, the classic Dolly Parton number “Jolene”; and the groundbreaking Sugarhill Gang single “Rapper’s Delight.”;

The selections for the 2014 class feature a mix of different styles, eras and levels of popularity. It’s a slate that features Gil Scott-Heron getting cozy with the Mary Poppins soundtrack and Neil Young hanging out with Run-D.M.C.. (We have a list of all of this year’s inductees at the bottom of the post.)

The head of the Recording Academy, Neil Portnow, accompanied the news with a statement about this year’s inductees: “Memorable and inspiring, these recordings are proudly added to our growing catalog — knowing that they have become a part of our musical, social, and cultural history.”;

Speaking of musical history, the nominees for the 2014 Grammy Awards will be announced on Dec. 6 on CBS in a ceremony/event dubbed The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!! – Countdown to Music’s Biggest Night.
