As Will Ferrell’s alter ego Ron Burgundy continues his media blitz to promote the upcoming Anchorman sequel, the fake San Diego news anchor’s latest stunt was scuttled when actual breaking news intervened.
In character as Ron Burgundy, Ferrell has gone to Amsterdam for the European MVA awards, provided colour commentary for curling trials in Winnipeg (which he called “the Paris of Canada”;) and even co-anchored an entire newscast in Bismarck, North Dakota.
But last night’s scheduled appearance on ESPN’s Sportscenter was scuttled at the last minute when a press conference was announced regarding the sexual assault trial of Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston, and Ferrell’s comedy hijinks were forced to take a back seat to this breaking news story.
ESPN’s vice-president of communications tweeted that there was no reschedule date planned to have Ron Burgundy return to SportsCenter.
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues premieres on Dec. 18.
