Will Ferrell On The Song That Could Nab Him An Oscar: “It’s Stirring, Emotional…A Beautiful Thing”

By David Humphreys, .

Although Will Ferrell has graced the Oscar stage on numerous occasions, it’s always been as a presenter, never as a winner.

That could change this year. In Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, Ferrell performs a song which he co-wrote called “Doby”;, and there’s a good chance that it will land him the Oscar for best original song.

(Note: It’s not entirely clear at this point who or what Doby is—Ferrell’s lyrics only mention that Doby “swam with strength”; and had “an expressionless face”;. You can listen to the song here.)

“It’s stirring, right? Emotional. It’s a beautiful thing,”; says Ferrell, who considers himself a shoo-in for the Oscar—provided, of course, that the Academy “knows what they’re doing.”;

It’s been nearly 10 years since the release of the original Anchorman, but according to Ferrell, playing Ron Burgundy in 2013 didn’t feel all that different from playing Ron Burgundy in 2004. “It was literally exactly the same,”; Ferrell told ET Canada“s Sangita Patel. “It’s just such a fun character to play. And I’ve gotten to kind of do Ron here and there for various things over the years. It’s just fun being the buffoon that is Ron Burgundy.”;
