The first track from the Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues soundtrack to appear online—the mournful, elegiac “Doby”;—is already a front-runner for the best original song Oscar. Featuring a children’s choir and enigmatic lyrics that make reference to a strong swimmer with an expressionless face, the song puts the other contenders for the Oscar—such as Coldplay’s “Atlas”; from Catching Fire and U2’s “Ordinary Day”; from Mandela: The Long Walk To Freedom—to shame.
Today, the second track from the Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues has been released online, and it’s just as good. A cover of Christopher Cross’ “Ride Like The Wind”;, the track features Robin Thicke doing most of the vocals while Ron Burgundy talks over the track and occasionally belts out “such a long way to go”; in a ridiculous baritone. Toward the end, Burgundy complains that he’s been locked in the recording booth, and that his oxygen supply is running low.
Needless to say, this is probably going to surpass Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”; as the biggest hit of the year.
