At the end of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the ape army had managed to take over most of San Francisco.

You’d think that an army capable of taking over a major American city in a matter of minutes wouldn’t have much trouble taking over the rest of the country, but it appears that Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his comrades have hit a few snags. In the new teaser trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, set 15 years after the events of the first film, the humans are still running the show (although their grip on power seems to be severely diminished). The ape army, meanwhile, has taken to hiding out in the woods and is forced to revert to guerilla-style tactics.

Apart from Andy Serkis, the stars of the original film (James Franco, Freida Pinto) will not appear in the sequel, which will instead feature a new cast of human characters led by Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, and Keri Russell.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes hits theatres July 2014.
