Evangeline Lilly, a self professed “Hobbit”; nerd turned “Hobbit”; star, is also a trailblazer. The actress brings elf warrior Tauriel to life in Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug”;, a character created for the film to make up for the lack of female characters in J. R. R. Tolkien“s 1937 novel. Evangeline explains, “If I ever have a little girl and she goes to the movies to watch these movies and she sits through nine hours of cinema entertainment without seeing a single female character…that’s not okay today, you can’t send young women that message. I think it’s important that we sort of bridge that gap.”;
In the past, the 34 year old “Lost”; alum has been vocal about potentially retiring from acting , but she says her middle-earth adventure re-ignited her passion for acting.
“I had such an incredible time working on this. I felt so rewarded as a creative person…and it made me realize that on the right project with the right people in a really collaborative environment I could really love this job.”;
