When beloved Family Guy dog Brian Griffin bought the farm (temporarily, as it turned out) in November, outraged fans went ballistic, cooking up conspiracy theories and even launching an online petition to bring the character back from the dead.
And while Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane admits he expected fans to be upset, he wasn’t prepared for the level of outrage that erupted.
“We were all very surprised — and in a good way — that people still cared enough about that character to be that angry,”; MacFarlane told reporters after a TV Critics Association press tour session for his upcoming miniseries event Cosmos.
“It didn’t occur to us,”; he added. “We thought it would maybe create a little bit of a stir, but the rage was not something we counted on.”;
Regardless of the fan outrage, MacFarlane remains adamant that the temporary death of Brian was a good idea: “It reminded people that this is still a show where anything can happen, despite the fact that it’s been on for awhile,”; he said.
“Would I do it again? No, we already did it.”;
