For eight seasons, CTU agent Jack Bauer saved the world from all manner of terrorist threats, and now Kiefer Sutherland will be returning to his most famous role when the iconic action series is rebooted with 24: Live Another Day, a 12-episode limited series set to debut May 5.

The 47-year-old actor admits that reviving 24 is leaving him “a little nervous going back, but very excited about the opportunity…it’s very special, very exciting and very nerve-wracking.”;

24, he adds, “is something I’ll be associated with for the rest of my life, and I’m very proud of that.”;

Kiefer reveals that the Jack Bauer we’ll meet in Live Another Day is a very different man from the Jack was last saw in season eight. “He’s very motivated,”; he says. “He has a very specific agenda. He’s very much been operating on his own, so he does not have the same kind of loyalty as a character that he might have had in the previous eight seasons.

“He’s had enough bad things happen to him that he really doesn’t trust anybody, so I think he’s even a harder character now than he ever was. And trust me, in the last few seasons of 24 he was a very hard guy — but he’s even harder now.”;

With filming on 24: Live Another Day about to begin in London, Kiefer has just finished a movie called Forsaken, a western in which he plays a gunfighter who reunites with his estranged father — played by Kiefer’s real-life father Donald Sutherland.

“It was fantastic,”; says Kiefer, noting that this is “the first time we’ve ever worked together.”;

Kiefer reveals sharing the screen with his famous father for the first time was a bit nerve-wracking — and not just for him. “I called him the night before [filming was about to start] and said, ‘I hope you have a great sleep, we’ll see you in the morning.’ And there was a long beat and I said, ‘Just so you know, I’m really nervous.’ And he went, ‘Oh my God, thank God, me too!’ So we got to have that laugh and get that out of the way.”;

24: Live Another Day premieres Monday, May 5 on Global.
